Wondering what the problem could be. Wash machine will not drain or spin. Help!

See if you can find a tech sheet under the top or behind the front panel. This will take you through a diagnostic test.
Most likely is your central control unit or your motor (speed) control.

You also could just have a clogged filter inside the tub drain. Remove the connection to the pump and check. If it is filled with stuff, you will probably need to remove the tub clamp. These wire clamps ar very hard to replace, I usually use a band hose clamp instead. If you need a pump, AP4359998

I have removed the filter and found nothing inside. However if the pump is bad wont the machine still start to spin?

Measure the voltage to the pump during spinnout. If voltage, but no pumping, you have a bad pump. I think your washer will not spin till the water is pumped out.
