The agitator stopped working today and smelled like something was burning. My BF looked at the "coil" thing and said it was fine. I don't know what else it could be. Is it worth paying someone a couple hundred to come out to repair it, or should I just get a new machine?

These machines are repairable, but we need to know a little more before we can give a possible diagnosis. Does it fill, go through the cycle and drain and spin, or what exactly happens.

Depending upon your answer it can be the agitator dogs, the coupling or the transmission or even something caught in the pump which operates continually.
