I have a 9 year old GE side by side fridge and temps are not keeping correct. I did vacuum the back side after taking off the cover and I can feel that the compressor is running and there is no freezing off the coils going on. I spoke with GE repair phone service and they said to vacuum the back of the fridge and there is a cylinder black plastic casing on the freezer side and it was covered in dust and I think that is a protective casing around the coils. Any thoughts or help would be helpful. Thanks.:)

Whats running/not running, freezer fan, condensing fan? Jam the condensing fan and check compressor, it just might not be running!

Plastic white fan in the back that pulls the heat from the coils is running, compressor is running too. Freezer cools to about 20 degrees and the fridge is cool on the bottom to about 40 degrees but the top seems warm. There is a cooling duct on the top section od the fridge that is not blowing any cold air out of so I am sure this is one problem. There is a fan on the freezer side that normally runs when you close the door and it is running most of the time now. I woke up this morning and did not hear it running so I am sure it will turn on when temp is too high to cools it down. For some reason the ice maker is not making ice either which may be related to the temp issue. Thanks for all your help and quick responnse.
