I had this problem about 2 weeks ago. The fans are running fridge cold but freezer not cold. I hear a noise but it only last a few seconds, could it be the starter or some kind of stuck switch?

Hi,
Does the noise you hear sound like it's coming from the compressor?

The noise does sound like it is by the compressor. The fridge is now also not working. I still hear the buzzing then a click.

you can replace the starter. if the new starter stills makes this noise its time for a compressor. 5 year warrenty on compressor.

easiest way to tell a bad compressor is to get a clamp meter on the compressor wires (one at a time) and, with the compressor running check the amps. anything over 1.8 amps is a bad compressor. replacing a compressor is a job for a certified technician. it is illlegal for anyone other than an epa certified tech to work on the sealed system. I hope its the starter, flip. thats a quick and easy repair( the kind technicians love)(grin) in out and on our way.

I have one question... How do I replace the starter for a kenmore fridge when the starter seems to be hard wired? The capacitor comes out realy easy but I have doubts about the starter. Thank You
