dryer quit heating up yesterday. for about 4 weeks, it was taking 2 cycles to dry the clothes. yesterday, while running it started "smelling hot" then quit heating altogether.

In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the dryer.

Could be you had a grounded element. Part of the heater is running on 120 volts instead of the full element running on 240 volts. The element has sagged or broken and was touching the case and this has finally burned out. |
