I would not count your chickens quite yet.

Call is not complete till the unit is up and running properly for at least a couple weeks.

How much you have saved is dependent on a number of things.
Depends on number of calls it takes to repair the problem, what your local travel/labor costs are, how much they mark up the parts etc. etc.
I would say it will definitely be $100.00 or more and if you ended up getting a shady tech a couple hundred or more.

Part arrived and installed successfully. You were right, the replacement heater was a double coil. I replaced the thermostat as well. Freezer has been up and running for about a week. So far so good. Frost is minimal and perhaps most importantly the ice cream is as hard as a rock. I left the evap cover panel off for now to keep an eye on it. I'll wait another week or so before I reinstall it. Thanks for all your advice!

Sounds like you have it fixed.
Defrost should work even better with the evaporator cover back on as it does keep the defrost heat in the coil area so does a better job.

I have GSL22JFPBS & quick freeze is not really freezing & ice is forming on back of freezer. Does that sound like it needs the heater kit replaced too? Thanks! (Also, ice maker hasn't worked for ages if you have any quick thoughts on that too!) But the freezer issue not freezing is a bigger concern.

You would be much better off starting your own thread in this forum.
http://forum.appliancepartspros...igerator-freezer-repair/
Use "POST NEW TOPIC"

Include in the body a good description of the freezing problem.
Also a description of what the ice maker is doing.

You have to remove the evaporator cover and check the evaporator coils to see if they are heavily iced up. A light coating of frost is normal. Also chech that your evaporator fan is running.
