I discovered my ice make had not been producing ice. The ejector arm tongs were down in the cube maker with no water/ice in the tray. This particular model has an infrared sensing system which shuts off the ice maker when the in door bin/ dispensor is full and it appears to be blinking when the door is opened. The sensor switch is in the on position.
So, I'm not sure where to look first...could the emitter/sensor switch system be faulty? Do I look next at replacing the whole ice maker system(as in motor being burned out)? Do I have a bad water valve/mechanism causing the whole system not to operate? I have no leaks and the water dispensor in the door works fine.
About 5 months ago I did have a ice cube jam which kept the rotor from moving, water was also frozen in the trays, keeping the ejector arm from rotating through. I melted the water out of the trays and freed the arm. I reset the arm but it still didn't operate until I cut the power to the fridge and restored it. This allowed the ice maker to start working again!
I tried the power trick this time but it didn't work. My only other trick will be to try a hair blower on the emitter and sensor lenses to see if frozen condensate might be blocking reception of the infrared light, there-by shutting down the whole unit.
Any other thoughts wuold be appreciated?

Hi mdmathis6 The first thing I would do is the ice maker optics diagnostics. Based on the result of the diagnostics the optics or the ice maker has to be replaced. - The part number for the optics boards AP3137510 - The part number for the ice maker AP2984633 Good luck. Gene.

I have a Kenmore Elite French door refrigerator. The ice maker quit working. I took the whoe thing out and let it defrost, waited 24 hours, and nothing. Do you have any suggestions? We called a Sears service tech and he said that they freeze all the time and it needs to be replaced.
