In the last cycle the washer did not go into a spin. My husband turned it over and there is a bunch of rubber debris there. We need a belt, but just have to find out which one will work. Can't find the owners manual and we think that the # is correct. Could you advise us as to which belt would work. Thank you!

Depending on how much older than 10 years old, the washer may not have a belt. Not sure of the exact date, Whirlpool washers went to a direct drive coupling system. If that system were to wear out, there would be rubber debris.

I'm pretty sure that the washer was bought in the mid 90's, probably around 95-96? I can't seem to locate the papers on it, since I have moved during that time. Thx

I think this is your model Model LA7780XSW0 which doesn't have a belt. It has a coupler, part # 285753A.
To access the inside, raise the lid (grip the sides of the top ans pull forward slightly then raise it up) and remove the outer case.

Thanks so much for all of your help. Went and picked up the part today, and it was a coupler like you said. Copied off instructions from the net as to how to replace it. Wasn't hard at all. Husband had it done in no time. Then we found out that the gears were stripped on the agitator, so we replaced them also. Works like brand new for a 17 year old Whirpool. Thanks again and I'll be sure to tell everyone about this site.
