I have an Amana over the range microwave that is about 5 years old and out of warranty. Everything works except it does not heat. The lights, sounds, rotating dish, etc., all seem normal but food does not change temperature. Having read multiple postings on this site I think it is probably the magnetron. I can find them for sale online, but would appreciate advice - is this something really hard to replace? Is there any documentation on replacing it?

Open the control pane. Remove the Red and the White wires from the transformer and check for 120VAC between these wires while the control calls for heat and the door is closed. If there is no 120VAC then the problem is a bad control board. If there is 120VAC then check the diode as described in the Service manual. If the diode is fine then replace the magnetron. You can find all instructions in the Service manual. - The part number for the control board is AP428089 - The part number for the diode is AP99472 - The part number for the magnetron is AP4315380 Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana microwave Model ACO1860ASGene.
