Washer starts to fill and stops after 5 sec onds or so. Press the button in and out and stars back for 5 seconds, once filled it works fine. What is the problem?

Does it act the same in all the possible wash/rinse combinations you can select?

I would suspect either ayour temperature selector switch, or a bad timer.

If you switch the setting, and it does the same thing, I would suspect the timer.
AFTERTHOUGHT: Check to see if the air tube from the water lever switch is clogged, kinked, or otherwise restricted. This switch really controlls the voltage to the water inlet valve; When the switch is satisfied (by pressure related to your fill level selected), the voltage to the valve is interrupted, and the timer then takes over the operation. If there is a restriction in the tube or the air dome attached to the tub (this can be a lint clog), the switch can be tricked into "thinking" there's water in the tub.
Tell us what you find.
