I have an older Kenmore 80 series washer that won't go to the rinse cycle. It seems to work washing the clothes, and then draining. It will only run hot water water, though, no matter what temperature you choose. But when it it's supposed to start filling back up for the rinse cycle, it stops. It also makes a buzzing/humming noise, and you have to push the knob back in to stop it. Any suggestions?

The reason it will not go into the rinse cycle is that it wants to fill the tub with cold water in order to do the rinse, and for some reason your cold water will not come on.
First check to see that the cold water valve to the machine is working, then check to see if there is some obstruction in cold water valve on the washer (dirt, grit etc can block the inlet). If these check out see if current is getting to the cold water inlet valve when it is supposed to open, and if so, try replacing the valve assembly.
