My washer spins only intermittently. The first time I was left with a batch of soggy unspun clothes a repairman replaced the pump. (the water did pump out). The pump gasket did have an aneurism so maybe it was damaged. The washer worked fine for one week. Then it refused to spin out the water a second time. This time there was a strong smell of rubber accompanying the malfunction. The same repairman returned today: when he first tried the washer, it would not spin. Next, he removed the casing and the machine worked perfectly every time for 5 times. His diagnosis? Faulty transmission. Whirlpool is sending me a transmission at 50% of their cost. Now--what if the repairman is wrong? Could the timer be faulty or is there just no way to know??? The washer is five years and three months old.

Should I just return the transmission when it arrives and buy a new washer? The first repair cost $167.00 ($100.00 was labor). The repairman will charge me $45.00 to install the transmission if I decide to go ahead with the repair.

Please advise. Thank You for your time. R. Taylor

Did the motor run at this time?

Yes, the machine seemed to run completely through the cycle every time. But twice it did not spin. R. Taylor

It's hard to say what is better: to fix it or to get a new one. If you decided to fix it, I would recommend to replace the clutch and the motor drive coupling together with the transmission. These parts have to be removed anyway and to have them new will make the repair more dependable.

- The part number for the clutch is AP3094537

- The part number for the motor drive coupling is AP3963893

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool washer Model LSB6300LW0
