Using the oven yesterday, the oven stayed on 425 degress, where I had it set, and would not cool down after turning controls off. After a couple hours, we finally turned the breaker off in the main box. A very helpful friend came to dinner and suggested the temperature control needed replacing. After searching on the GE site, I'm still not 100% sure which switch is the right one to replace. None are labeled temperature control. The diagrams are not specific enough for me. I can do the replacing once I get the right piece. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked or attempted to use the range since it happened ? You might want to try it again, and you may want to remove the back panel and check the wiring for shorted, melted, areas, first. :) :) :)

Thanks Joe. I had the back removed and see the part you reference. The description says there may be wiring differences. Is that the norm or the exception? I know enough to be dangerous but not enough to fix my mistakes. I have plugged the oven back in and turned it on. I smell nothing unusual nor see anything that I can tell is out of the ordinary. After I turn it off, I will know if it cools back down, but unlike a computer, I doubt a reboot works with appliances. Thank you again for the help.

As far as I can remember, it was a matter of wether there was or was not a green ground wire terminal, and wether to attach it or not. Actually, sometimes a "reboot" does work, I'm hoping that's the case now. :) :) :) ;) ;) ;)

Thanks. Reboot didn't work. The part is ordered and should work out ok. Now at least I know where I'm headed with it.
