I purchased this GE dryer in July 2007 and it was working fine until about a week ago when I put in a load to dry at 50 minutes and, at the end of that cycle, the clothes were still damp. I put it in for another 50 minutes and it still wasn't dry so I had to put it in for a 3rd time at 50 minutes. This has happened for 3 loads now, so it's clear there's a problem. I do clean the lint screen after each load. I removed the silver hose from back of dryer and removed a bit of wet lint there. I've cleaned as much lint as I can find from within the dryer and hose, and have only gotten a little bit of lint. Would you recommend disassembling the dryer in order to clean? If so, could you advise how to do. Are there other troubleshooting tips to try before calling a repair person? Thank you.

First thing, check the vent OUTSIDE it sounds like its restricted, the wet lint you saw was due to excess moisture not venting properly. Also if they used PVS (plastic) to vent outside, it has a problem of lining the walls with lint over time and must be cleaned out manually.

If the vent is clear, take the dryer apart and check the heating element, Its possible that 1/2 the element is burned and you are only getting 1/2 of the heat!!!
