Hi,

my freezer is frosting up every few days. I checked the defrost timer and it is working. The defrost heater heats up along the bottom of it's U shape, but heats up only a couple of inches up the sides so that the top of my freezer coil frosts up. I'm assuming that this heater needs to be replaced, but the part is discontinued. Does anyone know where I can get this part and am I right in asuming it's not working properly?

Thanks

I would replace the defrost thermostat, probably intermittent. Defrost stays on as long as the thermostat stays on, usually cuts out at 55 degrees so all the frost will be gone by then. Only other problem could be a intermittent defrost timer.
It is normal for a cal rod (metal) heater to only heat up at the bottom.

Can I get your advice?
I have the Hopoint HSS251FMDWW fridge that seems to (I'm guessing defrost mode) shut down, then not cold back up until the food spoils. I put an ice cube in the freezer and it'll be fine for days, then I'll go out and check it, and the cube is gone. It's in my garage right now with nothing in it and I want to fix it and sell it. Any suggestions?

I would pull out the motherboard in the back of the fridg and look for poor solder connections at the big power relay. Part # WR55X10037 or just solder the contacts.
