The water keeps running through all cycles the only way to stop it is to close the valve and it's a pain running back and forth to turn the water on for each cycle that needs water. I would like to fix it myself but am not sure where to start.

A quick test. Turn the water on. Unplug the washer. Does the water stop? Or does it keep coming in? If it keeps coming in, you have a water valve that is stuck open and its needs to be replaced. If you can provide your model no. we can help with the part number.
