hi...my freezer isnt going into the defrost cycle. From what ive read online the easiest fix is the thermostat..so i went ahead and did that but it didnt work. I wanted to advance the dfrost timer like ive read on here..but was told by sears parts direct that my fridge doesnt have one. Any body have an idea of what i should do next? Thanks in advance for any help!

If your defrost heater looks ok with no burnt wires going to it, you probably have a bad adaptive defrost pc board located behind the control panel, part #12566102

Thanks in advance for any help! Do you have a multi meter ? You should have one for the test's you now need to make. The next step would be to test the defrost heater circuit and wires for an open circuit. If the heater circuit test's good then replace the defrost control board. I would like to help more , but you did not supply a good model number and I could not cross reference anything with what you supplied.

I went out and bought a multimeter to test the defrost heater.(i dont see any burnt wires) . I set the meter to ohm x1 and got a zero reading (with the freezer unplugged). Should i have taking the reading with the freezer powered?

An am currently trying to test the heater. Should the frige be powered? I disconnected the clip of wires going into the heating element and put a probe onto each side and got a reading of zero.(freezer unplugged)

NO power when you are testing ohms!! The heater is probably ok, but it should read about 30 ohms, not a dead short. Test it again and zero the meter by shorting the leads together and adjusting the zero knob.
