I have a GE side-by-side, model GS20IEPAWW, that is driving me crazy. The fresh food section is at 50˚F. The defrost circuit is working after I replaced the heater and thermostat (while I was in there). I have also replaced the main board and the temp sensor. I can fool it into working by placing the temp sensor, which is located in the fresh food section at the top next to the damper, in a glass of warm water - but by itself it won't properly cool. It seems that everything is working, it just can't sense that it needs to turn on at 50F. When I fool it, it can quickly drop the temp in the fresh food section below freezing. The other thing is the main board has been updated to a new part number and looks different, but I was assured it was correct. I don't know what to do. Can anyone help?

Did you follow the installation instructions when you replaced the main control board?
If the new control board installed correct then I would replace the temperature sensor.

Hi Gene-
The main board was installed correctly, although as I mentioned the new board is different then the original. The main difference is that the new board has an extra connection that is not used. I have replaced the temp sensor in the fresh food section. Is there any reason to think I need to replace the one in the freezer section too? That side of the unit is maintaining a temperature below freezing and is making ice. Everything behaves as if the control circuit is the problem. If that is part of the main board then I don't understand unless the updated part isn't backward compatible with my fridge. Regards,

I don't have the installation instructions, but I think I figured it out. I reinstalled my original board, and while the the compressor fan doesn't run (reason for original board replacement) the temperature control works. So I think the new board isn't backwards compatible. The old board is labeled 200D2260G008. The replacement part I was given was a WR55X10556 which was us formally WR55X10552. The old board doesn't run the compressor fan. I need an new "old" board.

Lets start it over. The new board comes with the installation instructions which is very important for proper installation and good performance. If it came without instructions you have to request them form people who sold it to you. If the original problem was not working condenser fan motor then you have to replace both the motor and the board due to GE recommendations. Otherwise the new board can be damaged again. What is the serial number of the refrigerator? Can you post a pictures of the plugs to the board?
In order to post pictures on the forum you have to click on the "Go Advanced" button and then scroll down to the "Manage Attachments" section. Make sure the size of the picture file does not exceed the limit.

The serial number is GF247189. There are 6 total connections to the board, 4 at the top and two at the bottom, as can be seen here. Each plug has a unique size so it is only possible to connect them in one location. This is a picture of the original board. dmanzell attached the following image(s):
