Yes that may be it. If the rotor doesn't completely seat onto the drive shaft, it's magnets won't actually cover the sensor on the stator and thus the computer doesn't recognize that it is spinning.
I will upload pics of what you should be seeing.

The rotor should be less than a finger width from the back.

Thanks for the picks. I have gotten the shaft flush and I only have a finger behind the rotor

I can hear a click sound and the tub is trying to rotate

Could the sensor have gone bad?

Thanks for the pics.

I hear a clicking sound, it sounds like the tub is trying to turn but it won't. Could the sensor be bad

Can you turn the rotor by hand and spin the tub?
If so can you feel and hear the clicking sound? Perhaps you can feel where it is happening...

Yes, I can turn the rotor by hand and also the tub.

The clicking is coming from the rotor area... but not sure where

I have checked and rechecked all connections and have removed and replaced the stator sever times

Wife is about ready to go by a new washer... lol

The clicking sound is comes from / inside or near the wire connection s

I went to the back and manually turned the rotor. Went the front and hit pause/run and it started to spin a cycle

The clicking sound returned and I turned the rotor again and sometimes I would start spinning, but only a few turns and stop

Start/pause always seems to activate something to happen

When reassembling the stator / rotor and wiring you may have dislodged the RPM sensor. Try removing the rotor and checking the wiring and sensor position. You might see signs of where the rotor is contacting the sensor as well. Send a pic of what you find under there.

suggestion
unplug the stator set it aside. bolt the rotor back on without the stator and spin it by hand to see if it spins freely or if the clicking sound is still present.

this will rule out everything else and tell us it is an issue with the stator
