My washer dial will rotate and correctly time the wash. But it comes right off when I push Start. So the dial is not engaging somewhere. I can start it manually by pulling on the on/off switch -- pic below. Is there a simple fix for this. I do not want to replace the whole timer as that is working fine. In some videos, I have seen that there is thin black piece inserted in the white switch piece. Mine does not have that. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be anything broken/missing on the back of the dial. Yes I checked out the video before posting...a new timer costs 128.00 -- which I was hoping to avoid because my timer WORKS. The dial moves to the correct wash setting and the wash time is correct, but when I pull up to start the dial comes off. I just have to pull the "start" switch manually. I was hoping there was a less expensive less complicated fix. I have not pulled out the the console per the video because I have no idea if another part might be the source. I don't want to order the $128 part given the age of the washer, I might as well get a new one as the service call alone will be upwards of $150.

One more thing from the video -- it shows a thin black piece in the middle of the timer shaft - my machine has no such part. Maybe it could slip out of place and be pushed back in?

Did you look inside your washer yet? Here are some pics. Maybe you could find a donor machine in the junk.
