Help. Pulled wires to change thermal cutoff (pic1). Noticed wires to it and part located behind it in the heating element box (pic2) were burned. Removed wires. Repaired wires. Now I have four wires and don't know which goes where (pic3). Two red wires (one with a white stripe) come from one black wire (hotwire?) and the other two red wires come from elsewhere (grounds?). Which goes where? If anyone can help will be happy to send more info. ekorder attached the following image(s):

No no ground on the heating element.... I may have a hard time explaining in words but I'll give it a shot. Now the wires you disconnected were from the high limit thermostat shown in the picture and the heating element? If so then here goes my try at explanation. One red wire will come from underneath the bulkhead and go directly to side one of the heating element. That's L2 120v. The other wire should come from above on the top high limit thermostat. It will connect to one side of the thermostat shown in pic 1. Then if you follow the last wire it should be just long enough to go from the other side of that thermostat to the other terminal of the heating element. That's L1 120v. The L2 line comes from the motor and is powered up only when the motor is spinning. The motor has a centrifugal switch that engages that side of the heating element and is always hot even in air only fluff mode. The L1 line comes from the timer through the cycling thermostat on the exhaust side then to the top high limit thermostat then to the lower high limit thermostat on the heater can finally to the second side of the heating element. I'm not sure if that made any sense. If not ask me and I will draw a picture to illustrate.

Ok if you want to talk that's fine. First can you post another couple of pictures with a wider view so I know exactly what I am looking at. Show me a pic say from the terminal block to floor including both the heater can and the exhaust side showing the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat. Also the wires in question with a little wider view showing their origination points and location.

Following your excellent instructions, the dryer is up and running. My question. What would happen if I got the wires wrong? As of now I have heat, I have tumbling, I have dry clothes. Will keep an eye on it today. Thanks for all your help.

I think it might short out see as you would be putting 220/240 through the thermostat instead of the heating element. Lets hope we never find out what happens. Oh I am glad you were successful without the phone conference. Thanks for using our forum!
