Whirlpool model ED2VHEXVB01 side by side with same issue. drain pan is dry, defrost tube is clear. it occurs every 2-3 days. we only use cubed ice.

Lola, the drain on mine is at the bottom, behind a drawer.

I'll try turning off the ice maker and see if it stops.

Not yet, had another "episode" last night. I'm going to try turning off the ice maker for a while once its full.

The issue on mine turned out to be the defrost evap. tray was cracked in the front corner under the filter cartridge. I think the filter sagged down and the weight caused the cheap thin plastic tray to fail.
