Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 9/10/2014(UTC) Posts: 1		My whirlpool refrigerator/freezer for about the last year has had intermittent operation. it would work fine for a while then stop working then start working again. lately if I jiggled the thermostat the compressor would come on for a while then shut off. now it has stopped working altogether. I tried jumping across the two wires on the thermostat to see if I could get the compressor to turn on but had no success with that. any ideas? I know nothing about appliance repair.

Do the condenser/compressor fan and the evaporator/freezer fan run? If yes then it could be compressor or it's start device problem. If No then it could be a defrost timer problem.
