My washer started making a sqeeking/whistling noise while in the spin mode and then disapears when it gets up to speed. It doesn't make a noise in the wash mode only the spin mode. One time it also had a burnt smell while in the spin mode. I had a belt replaced about a year ago could it possbly need a new belt again?

Take off the front panel and operate the machine. First check to see if the belt is slipping, and if so it may be damaged in which case you can replace it. If the noise is coming from base it may be damper pads, this part here Part number: AP4024203
If the noise is coming from the transmission it could be the brakes are not releasing or that the transmission is failing. Note, it is very dangerous to work on these brakes without the proper tools and instructions as they are under a high pressure spring which can cause serious injury. If you do decide to tackle it see if you can obtain a service manual on line for a small charge.
