Thank you Joe. I opened it up yesterday but I didn't see any burn mark. BTW, the water is being dispensed while no ice comes out. I will check out the link for the parts you listed.

I have mode ed5jhexts00. My ice dispenser was not working. The water dispenser was working. It was still producing ice. I took front facade off and slid microswitch off with the wires still connected. The switch worked when I pressed it. It was a bad connection between the switch and lever. I wedged a beer cap inbetween the switch and plastic housing. I now can use ice dispenser. :D

The bottle cap was a good, inexpensive repair procedure. But, if you're going to operate the dispenser as is, you need to consider a "non metallic" shim. Why run the risk of shorting out and creating more damage to the refrigerator or yourself or family.

Hello I hope someone can help me I also have the side by side whirlpool refridge and cannot get the Ice to dispense. From reading some sites on line I thought it was the aug motor so I bought one on line and replaced it but it is still not working. when I push on the lever in the door it clicks and it opens but the aug motor does not make a peep. (that's why I figured it was broke and I replaced it) but now I am thinking maybe what ever turns that motor on in the first place may not be working? Nothing seems to be wrong with the paddle that I can see and like I said it does click and it does still open the ice chute. Any ideas before I waste more money?

HelpMe, You'll need to dismantle the front of the dispenser assembly and access the switch bracket assembly, so you can check the actuator switch Part number: AP3131893
and check the switch circuit and operation. Then check the paddle Part number: AP3182222
Make sure the arms aren't cracked or broken and the paddle activates the switch. If all checks are OK, the issue will be a loose connection in the wiring harness or a faulty selector switch/control panel Part number: AP3890563
But that's not likely right now.

I have a similar problem. My Kenmore elite model 45423801 is not dispensing ice. I too replaced the auger motor to no avail. The auger turns when there is no ice in bin. With ice in the bin and the dispenser arm depressed the door opens and the auger motor hums but it doesn't turn although it will sometimes move a little. Could this also be a switch issue?

Tammy Tammy, It's not likely to be a switch or control problem, if the motor hums, and try's to turn, you're getting some power to the motor. Try this, remove the ice bin, dump the ice into a clean container(so you can put it back) and check the auger in the bin, make sure it's not bent, broken or stuck to the bottom of the bin with ice. turn the drive coupler at the back of the bin by hand and see if it moves freely and doesn't bind. If it does bind up, but there's no visible alignment or damaged parts issues, you'll need to remove the front of the bin and check the "chopper" blades spacers and guides inside the mandiplate assembly.

Joe - everything moves freely with no ice in the bin. The auger will turn when the ice dispenser arm is depressed and will turn manually. The coupler on the bottom of the bin turns freely. Everything has been thawed out and I have ensured everything turns without binding. However when I dump the ice back in the bin everything grinds to a halt. The auger looks fine and the blades look fine no dents and they rotate. Any ideas?

Tamara, We're going to need the complete model number (11 digits) so we can review service and parts history, and any technical information or updates. From the sound of it, you may have an "IDI" dispenser system, and we may have to test the selector switch and the harness to the auger motor, but not sure without a complete model number. Thanks
