Hello ~

Hope someone can help... My Whirlpool side by side makes ice fine but it will not dispense ice at all. I have searched the forum but have been unable to locate the answer for this refrigerator/freezer model. I can get as much water dispensed as I wish but am unable to get both crushed and cubed ice.

Anariz,

First thing, is the ice dispenser paddle out of alignment, twisted, hanging crooked, etc. ?

Does the flapper door open, when you press the ice paddle ?

Can you hear the actuator switch "click" when you press the paddle in ?

A bad switch or broken paddle tab is the more common problem on your style refrigerator dispenser with that complaint.

You may need to remove the dispenser panel (facade) to access the components,

The dispenser panel/facade can be removed by inserting a flat blade screwdriver into the two slots on the bottom side (edge) of the dispenser panel(facade) and twisting the blade until the panel snaps free at the bottom, slowly and carefully push up on the panel until the hidden retaining tabs are free from the dispenser body. Label the wires and disconnect the harnesses/and wires as needed, and set the panel aside. Remove the (3)screws holding the switch bracket assembly to the housing assembly. You will then have access the the switches, wires, and paddle assembly.

You may need this part, once you determine the failure,

Part number: AP3872692
Part number: AP3872692

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Hello Joe,

Thank you for your reply. First, the dispenser paddle is very solid, no play other than what is required of it. The flapper door does not open when the paddle is depressed. When depressing the paddle, I hear no noise at all. I have been trying to remove that front panel (facade) it's a bit snug. I don't want to remove this part unless we know for sure that this could definitely be the cause of the ice cubes/crushed ice not dropping. Thought I'd reply to see if maybe it's something else after answering your questions.

Again, thank you for your help.

Anariz,

Sorry, but you'll have to remove the facade and access the assembly.

Your description, gives me the impression you've got a linkage and a switch problem.

The flapper is a mechanical operation, when you press the paddle the linkage opens the flapper door, then the closer assembly slowly closes the door.

When you press the paddle, it also closes/activates a switch, which when activated, the switch sends power to the auger motor and solenoid for cubed / crushed ice. With no "click" the switch is bad , or again you'd have a linkage problem.

I don't think you'll find a problem, but you could remove the top hinge cover of the freezer door, and check for loose wires or connections in the wiring harness connector located there.

:) :) :)

After reading this thread, I removed facia and found the plastic pins that hold the ice switch were broken off, allowing the switch to fall out of the mounting clips. i used a hot nail to make holes and put the pins in fom the side, then hot melted them in. replaced the switch and reinstalled the facia...works fine. no parts, no money, and half an hour labor.

Dr. Stan, Great job, and Thanks for the update. It'll come in handy when someone else has an issue with the actuator switches on their dispenser.

Thanks Again

We had the same issue with dispensing ice but not water. When we removed the facia, we found all three tabs broken on the water side. Tried to repair with super glue, but if it isn't exactly at the right angle, in the right spot, it doesn't hold for long. We ordered a new bracket from Amazon for less than $10 and repaired it in less than 10 minutes this morning. I'm a 50+ year old woman with not a lot of mechanic experience, so that shows you what a simple job it is. :-) Probably saved ourselves close to $100. Thankful for forums like this one.

After a recent lightning strike, an apparent main control circuit board was shot. A repair man replaced the board and it started cooling and making ice. However, I found out that an ice dispenser failed to dispense ice. after checking the web site here as well as this posting, I am thinking that I may be able to order "correct" parts and do it myself.

My Model #: Whirlpool Side by Side (Model#: GS2SHAXSS01)

I do not hear the motor start when I press the ice dispenser guide although the green light is on currently cube and can switch it to crushed ice.

Would someone guide me what part I would need to order? Is that possibly the same Parts number listed above?

Thank you in advance.
Sam

Sam, It doesn't sound like a "mechanical" issue in your case. You' re going to need to remove the façade, and check the

Part number: AP4354814
Part number: AP4354814

Bracket and control board for any damage or burnt marks. That's the more likely place to start in your case.
