the center spray arm will not rotate in any cycle. it is not frozen, is not clogged as I have taken it off and put it back on. looking to buy a new arm (cheap enough). should I purchase any other parts? the bearing for center arm appears to be a simple washer. am I missing something here? glasses are retaining residue due to this lack of rotation. thanks

Ge base model dishwashers are one of the poorest machines made and the sump pumps get weak quicker then most brands. Vaccum out the sump area by disassembling and cleaning it all out with a shopvac removing any broken glass or food. Run 2 cups of vinegar through the unit on a cycle to break away grime and hard water. After your done with that take 2 coffee cups onto the top rack and put them face up and run your dishwasher for 5 minutes open it up and check the cups if they have more then 1/4 full then the sump is working right. Check your fill tube on the back and make sure those round flaps open and close properly and inspect your middle spray arm for cracks caushing leaks or improper function if it's cracked or leaks replace it. If after the cleaning and testing and your dishes are still having issues replace the sump or buy a better dishwasher. 05-Motor-Pump Mechanism parts for GE PDW9900N00BB - AppliancePartsPros.com

Does the upper arm rotate?
You said it is not clogged, did you check that both holes on the bottom, ends of the arm are clear of debris they are what makes it spin. Check them when the arm is in position. if you remove the are then junk can move but once the water pressurizes the arm it is pushed and clogs the holes. FYI: If cleaning sumps etc. always be sure to manually add water to the unit before starting it. Running this pump when dry will burn out the seals. |
