Our GE monogram refrigerator was having intermittent warming of the freezer, thawing ice and contents but then later rue freezing. I had a repairman out, he checked the compressor and thermistors and all was functioning correctly. He stated that perhaps the fan my not be running properly. He said the monitor over next couple of days. The next day neither the freezer nor the refrigerator is cooling. Inside panel reading freezer at -45 and frig 37 degrees when actually both are room temp. Called repairman again, he was supposed to come the next day but called and stated that I would need a new control panel or board at the cost of $1,100. How could he come to this conclusion? Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the motherboard in the back (AP3957581) and look for bad solder joints below the power relay. If OK order a new one, most probably your problem.

Thank you for the advice. I asked the repairman why a $200 part would cost me $1,100 for installation. His price went down to $800 and would also include replacing the fan blower. My husband can replace the motherboard, so could I for that matter. I have already ordered the motherboard. What are your thoughts on the fan blower replacement.

Labor and parts rates seem extremely high and it is really not a difficult/ time consuming job.

When refrigerators get previous the quivering have a tenancy in order to make little gaps in the Appliance courses and stamps get previous. You can call a repair serve to let them check it out. Its very likely it can be resorted. But if the service man says you first need a new compressor. Junk it and buy a fresh one. Many funds now will take to old one out for you when they present the new one. It takes the concern away from having to dispose of the old one.
