Washer has been making loud clacking noises starting spin cycle. Spin up has seemed a little slow also. Noise diminishes when spin us up to speed. Now something must be really impeding the spin because it just melted the motor pulley.

Tom, the clacking noise and poor ramp up in the spin cycle, would be an indication of the thrust bearing Part number: AP4009132
cams and pulley tolerances have expanded(worn out) and can't engage the brake and clutch properly. If there have been no abnormal noises(squealing, rumbling, grumbling, etc) during wash or spin, chances are the misalignment caused the belt Part number: AP4024823
to "cinch" up and burn the pulley Part number: AP4024152
Your best bet, would be to replace all three components at the same time.
