Hello Gene

I have A GE tps24bpda bs, I have taken the cover of the freezer to check the heating element and got no resistance so I have ordered it. Problem is I put everything back together while I wait for the part( Wife wants at least to keep food in there till the part comes and is pain in the ars) but I just read again that I should have discounted one of the wires before testing. I didn't will this have affected the open circuit? I tested across the heater and got no resistance? I don't want to have to take it apart again if I don't have to.

Also After I hook it up can I put into defrost mode by triggering the timer and see the heater on to make sure it works?

Hi Jason,

If you tested the heater with all wires connected to it then the result is not accurate. If you manually defrosted the evaporator then you can us e the fridge for a few more days. Make sure all wires are connected back or insulated. The evaporator cover in the freezer must be in place to provide proper air flow and heat exchange.

In order to see if the heater is working the defrost thermostat must be cold enough to close the circuit to the heater.

So if when I receive the heater and I pull out the old one if i check continuity when its removed and it doesn't have any would that lead me to believe that it was the problem?

My model is Maytag #MSD2756GEW I can't see the defost time on beark down diagram, it had Adptive Defrost, Defrost Heater, Defrost Thermostat so how do I find the Defrost Timer on this model.

There is no any timers because the defrost cycle controls by the adaptive defrost control which is most likely the culprit.

Hello Gene

Thanks for all your help got it fixed. One thing I'm not sure of, there is a looks like a sensor in a clear tube that is below the water file line it comes from the fresh food side does that come out the motor cover plate like the fill line does for the ice maker or does it stay in back of the cover plate? There is a hole for it but I can't remember. Model # GE tps24bpdabs
