Wife went into start dryer, loaded, set dial setting for specific drying time and pushed start - nothing. You can hear the timer running but, nothing starts.

Can I assume is might be the push start button that has gone bad?

No.
It could be a number of things.

Does the drum light work?
If not you may have lost Neutral.
The timer and heater on this unit run off of 240 volts.
The drum light and motor require 120 volts.

Also at the top of the list is a blown thermal fuse.
There seems to be a inconsistency between the parts breakdown and the wiring diagram. The wiring diagram shows a thermal fuse in the motor circuit but I cannot find it in the parts breakdown.
If it has one it is usually mounted on the blower assembly with the main control thermostat.
