My dryer will not stay running. When i push the start button I hear what i believe is the motor running although as soon as I let go of the start buttion it will shut down. In addition the drum will not turn. I did hold in the button that verifies the door is closed and the start button at the same time and I could see the heating elements turn on but the drum would not turn. Do you think the two issues are related? The dryer was running fine and just stopped in the middle of a cycle. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can try taking the machine apart and cleaning the lint from around the motor switch and windings but it sounds like the motor has gone south on you. You'll probably need to replace it. First make sure there is nothing caught in the blower keeping it from turning on. Can you turn the drum clockwise by hand fairly easy?

If cleaning it doesn't work, replace the motor.
