I have a ge profile space saver microwave over the stove. When you turn it on it makes a loud humming sound, and it does not heat up anything. I am not sure whether this is a motor issue of a fan issue or both. I have already had it repaired by a service man but that was years ago and it worked well til now. Just not sure if this is worth trying to trouble shoot and fix this time or replace. If I were to replace it any suggestions with same/like product since it is a built in? Thanks JO D

Hi,
Could be a bad magnetron or a bad high voltage diode. To see if it was a high voltage problem I would first disconnect the 110-120 volts going to the high voltage transformer to see if the noise stopped. If it did then you know the problem is on the high voltage side of the unit.
You need to take care when working on microwave ovens. Even with them unplugged the high voltage capacitor and hold a charge and shock you.
