Last week the spin/agitation cycle started going out occasionally. When it did work it worked for the entire cycle other times it just never started. As of this week it has stopped working completely.
I checked the lid switch, it's good. I checked the fuse, it's good. I found the LED and it was blinking 6 times, indicating a locked rotor according to the schematic I found. However, the tub, the belt and the motor all move freely by hand.
I followed instructions I found in this forum to reset it. After the reset the LED was indicating normal standby. I ran the machine for an entire wash and the indicator never changed.
After futzing with it some more the LED stopped blinking all together. Checked the fuse again and it's bad. Great... Temporarily bypassed so I could continue checking out the washer. Still normal standby.
Checked the mode shifter and I'm getting 67 ohms. There is a red plug that plugs into the motor. Checked the voltage on the red plug during the spin cycle but wasn't sure what anything should measure. Wires 2 and 5 (white and red): 35v Wires 3 and 5 (dark blue and red): 0v Wires 4 and 5 (violet/white and red): 30v
The mode shifter plug and the red plug are right next to each. There are light scorch marks on the side of the mode shifter plug nearest the red plug. The same can be found on the side of the red plug nearest the mode shifter plug.

GE designed these machines so they can be easily diagnosed, except when they cannot which is your case.
I suspect the inverter, which means replacing the motor.
