I am working on a Whirlpool gas dryer and unable to figure out why there is no flame. Igniter comes on, thermostat clicks and a very small flame (about 1'') can be seen at the beginning of the tube, not the end by the igniter. I have replaced the coils and thermostats, but no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am not sure if it is the valve or if there is a test to check the valve. Thank you for you expert advice as always.

Ohm out the ignitor, should be around 3 to 3.5 ohms. If it ohms out ok, the valve probably needs replaced.

Seems like your gas valve is bad, or the gas pressure to it is low. For safety reasons, I would get a pro to look at it.

I replaced the valve assembly (with new coils) and now have a good flame, but it only last about 20 seconds then goes off for approximately 1-1/2 minutes and comes back on for about 20 more seconds. I also hear what seems to be an electrical noise I think prior to the flame going out, checked all connections and everything is tight.

As richappy said it may be time to call a tech.
