I have this type of microwave 3 years. It won't heat it just makes a noise. Do anyone have any idea what can it be.

I have a similar GE model (JVM 1870BF01) 3 years as well and it stopped heating a week ago. All of the other functions seem to be working normally. Although, when I turn it on, the normal humming operating noise seems to be louder. I remember hearing a distinctive pop during one operation. It worked fine for a few more times then just quit. Again, everything else works fine just no heat. In defrost mode, I can hear the power switching on and off, if that helps with the diagnosis. Any and all inputs on solutions would be great. FYI, the owner's manual says GE covers the magnetron for 9 yrs but not the labor. I am leaning toward this being the problem.

ariver61 and JetFla, Sounds like the problems with your microwaves are the same - bad magnetrons. It has been the most common problem for GE over the range microwaves for over ten years. The part should be under the manufacturer warranty but as JetFla said, this warranty does not cover any labor charge. The microwave has to be removed from the cabinet in order to replace this part. If you know how to handle a simple tools, this job is not going to be too difficult. You have to call GE to find out how much is their labor charge and compare it with the price for the part. Your models are very similar and the part number for the magnetron is the same: AP2025937. I would recommend to replace the diode at the same time. The part number for the diode is AP2026385. Gene.
