Check your belts first see if one is broken or stretched.

I took brake off an tub spins freely.could it be the brake ?

The brake could be grabbing not allowing the tub to spin.

Try to turn the brake pulley by hand if it won't then you will have to change the brake/clutch.

did you pay attention when you removed the phillips screw and took the dog ear off the transmission pully when you removed it? That little piece has to go on a certain way. or it wont spin when you put it back together.........I will also mention on a dependable care maytag the belts are designed to slip and the motor carrage should have free movement back and forth I've seen the bleach disp leak and corrode the motor carrage and it needs silicon grease and even sometimes new rollers but a streched belt will cause a maytag not to spin because the motor isn't pulling back far enogh to put tension on the belt to make it spin.
