Washer will not spin and there is a burning smell, works fine up until that point

Check your belts & pulleys to see if one of the "locked" up.

Checked both pullys and they turn freely. Is there anything else I can check?

It finishes the cycle before spin and it tries to go into spin but it doesn't

here is how you hotwire a Maytag motor but you could have a siezed up spin bearing causing your problem as well pull the front cover and look at center of tub underneath and see if water is leaking which took out the bearing if it has your probably looking at a new machine attached is the diagram

It ended up being the siezed bearing, water had leaked down on it. Thanks for the help
