Is the adaptive defrost the same as the defrost timer? is it tested the same way as stated in one of the previous posts.

Defrost timers are mechanical and adaptive defrost are electronic. Testing is different but the results are the same. If you're experiencing a defrost prob with Maytag replace the defrost control(61005988) 9 out of 10 times the heatr and thermastat are good

Thanks for the info. The number I have for the Defrost control is AP3160614 Are these interchangeable? I tested the Heater and it checked with about 20 ohms, haven't done the thermosat yet.

Thats probably right I was giving you Maytag part Number not APP
