1 1/2 weeks ago we had a repairman out to repair a problem with the capacitor. The compressor would not start. He made the repair by adding
A HS410 Powerstart relay – Combination Relay, Capacitor, Overload ¼ thru 1/3 HP - replaces RCo410, HS410, & WRX-4. (by Aspen Mfg.Inc.) to the old capacitor. They are wired together.

Now 1 ½ weeks later the Adaptive Defrost Board burns out so we ordered a new one, installed it and when plugging the frig. In – it immediately burned out the same as the other one. The refrig. of course does not work. The lights are on and we are able to get filtered water but compressor does not work.

I don’t want to try to install another Adaptive Defrost Board until I find out what is wrong to cause it to short out. Can someone help? I have pictures.

Your problem is the rco41 hard start device. These items cause fires and blow out adaptive defrost boards, the tech should have known this. Never use this repair place again and get your money back, he could have blown out your compressor. In fact in may now be shorted due to this start device. The use of a 3 n 1 hard start kit on a modern R134A compressor will always lead to compressor failure usually within a few weeks and will fail without warning. This fact has been known for a long time back to the Montreal protocol in 1995 which forced the manufacturers to stop using R12 refrigerant and redesign the compressors to become more efficient, but lacking the impedence protection characteristics the R12 compressors had.
I would first verify your compressor is not shorted, then check this site for the correct start device and replace it. You just check the compressor terminals for a short to ground.
