Our Maytag washer will not drain on the normal cycle, only occasionally on the color cycle, but usually switching over to the delicate cycle will get things moving again. It seems to me it is probably the timer, as it doesn't make sense that the pump would only work on certain cycles, or that an obstruction would only appear on certain cycles. Have any others seen this particular malfunction? Thanks.

If you have the same symptoms with spin then yes, I would try replacing the timer.
