My washer is leaking from under the tub....and....I obviously have a bad bearing too. During the spin cycle we have to close the door to the utility room it is so loud...and water drains from under the tub. Anyway, I see no way to remove the agitator. There is a fabric softener cup on top of the agitator but I can find no way to remove it either.

The fabric softener cap comes off, may have to turn it. there is a screw under there the n you should be able to remove the agitator.

Thank you for such a quick response. Okay....the fabric softener cup spins both ways and doesn't seem to unscrew or have a screw in it. The spiral portion of the agitator spins counter-clockwise but offers resistance being turned the clock-wise. Turning it clock-wise is hard but it doesn't seem to be unscrewing and will still freely turn counter-clockwise and offer resistance again when I turn it clock-wise. I have gotten a mirror and can find no screws in the agitator or the fabric softener cup. Does the fabric softener cup need to be pryed off the top of the agitator?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your macnine is going to need a major overhaul tub seals spin bearing belt the other bad news is after you go to the trouble of fixing it with a minimum of 150 in parts it's just going to do the same thing in a couple years. You see Amana messed up with that machine and they used a plastic tub with the same or similar seals they used with the metal tubs, they found out that the plastic flexes and wont hold a tub seal for very long you are money ahead getting rid of the pile a crap and getting a new machine JMHO
