90 Series: MJ0420146 Type: DDOT ELE 2406 028 CV54 purchased 12/99 Laundry closet is under stairway (tight fit). I removed 1/4 in. screws from back to check heating element, but it appears to be spot welded. I did notice lots of lint in vent tubeing (planning on replacing) and cleaning fixed pipe and trap (had always tried to keep filter clean,). Checked circut breaker it's the kind where 2 110s are are together via clip. My questions are 1) For it to heat up how long should it take and does it need clothes in it to heat up ? 2)Does it need vent tubing to heat ? 3) Considering lint build up, and age what is most likey to have given out ? 4) to check heating element do I need to open from front and remove drum ? 5) where on net can I find pictures for disassembly ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I will atempt to answer your questions. #1. it should only take about 30 seconds to feel the heat and no it doesn't need clothes in it. #2 It also does not have to hooked up to the vent(although it is best to keep moisture out of your house when actually drying clothes.) #3 The lint build up is normal, you should clean it out completely once per year. #4 Opening the front & removing the drum is the easiest way to check your element. #5 Your model does not come up on this site, you can see a breakdown at searspartsdirect.
Now, if I understan your statemen earlier you said you have the dryer hooked up to two 110V breakers clipped together???? If that is the case that could be your problem, replace those with one 220V 60Amp breaker. Also slide the unit back out and remove the rear panel and test each of the thermostats, with the wires removed, for continuity. If one of those do not have coninuity then replace that part.

The ONLY way to check the Heater is from the REAR, Also the correct circut breaker would be a 30 amp 220V breaker. The first thing thing to check is the thermostat at the top of the heater box.:D
