In case I have no luck with the warranty in Canada, could you tell me the part number for the control board and if it's available from APP? (Model: GDS20KBSBBB)

abadfish66,

Read through the whole thread on the noises from the main board and the free board replacement program. Called GE to see if mine qualified and the guy was, of course, completely worthless. He couldn't refer me to anyone technical who could check to see if mine was covered or not. Can you tell me if it is?

Model #GSH25JFRF
Board WKKT Model #0158-00-04
Board GEA Part #200D4854G013
Purchased 11/2006

I just want to make sure ahead of time, because for the cost to have the tech drive to my house I could buy the board. I'm not into wasting time or money.

If the board is covered, I just call the 800 number you gave and schedule an appointment?

Dave

Badfish,

Last night I scheduled and appointment online with GE. First available was 5 days away! In the remarks block I added the symptoms, the mention of the free replacement program, and the "no cool", as you suggested. Got a call at 7:00 this morning from the local tech who said he could fit me in this afternoon. He was in and out in about 5 minutes and swapped my bad board with a WR55X10552. The unit is back to its old self again.

Thanks a million for all your help. I'll definitely be telling others about this site!

I'll second that - you GE techs are good...so how about spreading some of that knowledge and helpfulness to the rest of the company! ;)

I had no luck confirming the warranty status of my board here in Canada - just attitude and confused responses: "warranty program, what?" Maybe if I had taken the chance and scheduled a service call, the tech would have known what was going on. But seeing as how other tenants in the building had already failed to get their boards replaced by GE Canada under warranty, I decided to spend half as much and just pick up WR55X10552 from a parts outlet (would have bought it from APP, but alas...no international shipping).

Anyways, just wanted to say that the advice on here is great! Even though I didn't get a free replacement, I still did save a bundle. Thanks!
