Could not find a wiring diagram but the norm is
White - Neutral
Red - 120 volts
Black - 120 volts
Green - Earth Ground (chassis)

If you are hooking up a 4 wire line cord it is important that the ground strap on the unit's terminal strip's Neutral connection to the unit's chassis be removed.
On 4 wire hook ups Neutral and Earth Ground are separate.

thanks Denman. Im getting 120v out of the two rectangler slots on the 4-wire receptacle. when I check for voltage on the red and black wire while its not
connected to the dryer I get 120v on each wire. But, when Im connected to
the dryer i get 120V on the red wire and no voltage the black. why? Dryer
doesnt work at all not even the drum light.

Do you get 240 between the red and black?

If not then you are reading the same side of the line.

Did this used to work or is this a new hook up?
