GE TFX26ZPDA side by side I found the fridge wasn't getting below 65 but freezer is working. After reading the thread I noticed the back panel of the freezer hasn't defrosted in a while. I've unplugged the fridge and removed the inside panel of the freezer to see tons of frost. I removed the heating element & it measures 1M ohms which I'm guessing should be closer to zero ohms. Is that correct & how do I know if I need to replace the thermostat also? Hoping to get some help troubleshooting.
Thanks, Kevin

Very common problem with Maytag refrigerators and the solution, most likely, is to replace the adaptive defrost control (#13 on the diagram). You also have to defrost the evaporator coils manually. A hair dryer may help. - The adaptive defrost control Part number: AP4070403

Kevin, The defrost heater is bad. No doubt about it. It comes with the new defrost thermostat, so you do not have to worry about it. - The defrost heater assembly Part number: AP2071521

Thanks Gene. I had only seen the heater sold by itself. And thanks for providing the part link.

Hi,
My refrigerator is Whirlpool ED25RFXFW01. The refrigerator is not cold enough on Sat, but the freezer is working. On Monday morning, the freezer is not working and the ice cream is melting. Funny thing is the freezer is working again after I came back from work on Monday evening.
Can you tell me where to check and which parts that I need to replace? If you have the picture link that will be greatful.
Thanks,
Steven

Thanks,
Steven Steven, The first thing I would do is remove the rear cover and clean the condenser. Make sure the fan next to the compressor is working. Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL ED25RFXFW01 | AppliancePartsPros.comGene.

How to check whether defrost heater problem, defroster timer problem, or defrost thermostat problem? Thanks, Steven
