washer wont advance past wash cycle. timer does not advance. motor does not run. if i manually advance timer, nothing happens.

Check the lid switch.

what about the timer, does the lid need to be shut to drain the water or just to spin

The lid switch is a safety device. It would not let the washer to spin and /or drain with open lid.

you were right. bypassed the switch and it ran. thanks for help. will order part you listed.
