Greetings all,
I'm having a problem with the compressor getting too hot and kicking off. I have to unplug the unit for hours for it to cool down, when plugged back in it will work fine for about 12 to 15 hours before it will overheat again.

Make sure the fan by the compressor is running.

The fan and all other parts are working fine. Last night I open the back just at the compressor side at put a small house fan where it would pull more air thru and the compressor is staying cool and running without problems so far.

If you have a amperage meter, check to see how many amps the compressor is drawing if it,s 10% over the normal, it will need replacing.

I do not have an amperage meter. What would be the problem with the compressor if its pulling too much amps? My compressor is still under warranty because this refrigerator is only 3 years old.

Greetings,
Both compartments are at the right temperatures, ice cream is hard and milk is cold. So far the small house fan I put back there is keeping the compressor cool enough to keep running.
Everything else seems to operate correct.

It seems I may have the same problem. I unplugged my fridge the other day for 24 hours. I plugged it back in and everything was fine. 12-14 hours later it stopped working again then everything melted. Now the compressor runs but nothing gets cold... what a nightmare this is... I'm done with GE.

Well this thing is killing me!! It knocked off again Saturday mourning, so I unplugged it and wait all day and still dead so I thought it bit the dust. Tried it again on Sunday and would not start. Call Frigidaire this mourning to come and change the compressor out and they gave a number for a local repairman. So before I call him I plug the refrigerator back in one more time to make sure it's dead--and wouldn't you know--it starts running again. If this compressor is bad and pulling too many amps, how long will it take before it completely bites the dust so I can get it replaced?
