Gene, can you tell me where exactly the thermistors are located in the unit? It's hard to tell on the diagram where they are.

The only thermistor you need at this time is located on top of the evaporator coil (#241 on the diagram).

Set the freezer temperature control on 1 and wait about 24 hours to see the result.

Dear Gene: I wanted to make sure I tried everything you said to do before replying back on the GE refrigerator with cold freezer and warm refrig. I currently have the temp and refrig settings on 5. The freezer is at 10 degrees and the refrig is at 44 degrees for the past 2 days. I removed the back panel in the freezer and the coils are ice free. I could not find the defrost heater to check continuity on it. ( but with the coils being ice free I assume it is probably ok ) Does this point to the need for a new control for the refrig?? Sorry for the delay but I wanted to try everything that I could do based upon your description.. Thanks KEnt

How about some thin snow?

If the coils are clean, there is a problem with the sealed system. Very likely it is low on Freon. It has to be tested by a pro.

Gene, re: the warm fridge cold freezer you were assisting me with. You referred me to page 3 for instructions. We found that the heater is definitely bad, and I am now trying to check the defrost thermostat. It has zero ohms at room temperature. Is it supposed to be open or closed at room temp? My model was GE GSS22JFMDCC

Any idea of what the avergae cost of such repair would be?
Sears wants $75 just for coming out or $252 for 1 year extended warranty (of service and repairs). They won't tell me the cost of fixing a leak and refilling the refrigerant.

I would never deal with large companies like Sears unless you have to do it because of warranty service.

Much better to call a local repair company because only for a such company you can be a valued customer.
