I think I've messed up the temperature sensor after putting out a grease fire on my old Tappan. The gas ignites but the control doesn't control. Just gets really hot. Is this a civilian-replaceable part? If I have to pay someone I might as well get a new range. And there's also the question of whether I am making the correct diagnosis. If I buy the part will you give me instructions on installing it? Thanks

There is no a separate oven sensor in this oven. The temperature controls by the oven thermostat (#12 on the diagram). Looks like the thermostat has been damaged and has to be replaced. In order to do it you have to remove the top panel which is secured to the burners by the three screws around each burner. - The oven thermostat Part number: AP4358457

Thanks. I think I might get it done right but on closer inspection I think I'd be better off replacing the whole range. I use it a lot and it probably has reached the end of its useful life. Besides I have a hankering for convection, timed baking and a clock that works. Thanks for your help. Lew
